Gnome Fest 11

Gnome Fest is now in it's Eleventh year and has been bestowed upon the beautiful hills, valleys, streams and singletrack of the Hirsch Farm outside of Platteville, WI. It is a celebration of bikes, nature, friendship and beer. Come ride your bike in the sun and the shade. Meet some friends and Make some friends. We'd love it if you could join us. Schedule

The below schedule is from the 2014 event.  You can count on something similar for 2015, but details are not finalized yet.

Friday - September 5th, 2014

3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. - Registration
  • Registration starts at 3:00 p.m. - this is where you will get your schwag packet and registration ticket.  Your registration ticket is your shot at the Surly Ice Cream Truck Frame and Fork and other prizes.  Grab a beer, set up your tent, camper, cooler and lawn chair.  Chill Out and meet fellow Gnome Festers.
8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. - Gnome Fest Enduro
  • Wondering what an Enduro is?  So are we.  Since we don't really know, we're going to make it up and it goes like this.
  • Participation is Optional - However you must participate in the Enduro to qualify for the Figure 8 Death Race.
  • You will be randomly assigned to a team.  The number of people on your team will depend on the number of participants.
  • You will get to pick your own team name.  Be "creative" - but you'll need to yell it as you ride into the Transition Space.
  • Your team will challenge one other team.  Your teams will decide what that challenge is, and what the winner gets.
  • One person from each team will be on the course at a time.  The rest of the team will socialize around the camp fire with other teams and be ready to take turns riding laps.
  • Your team will be "racing" against the other teams.  There will be prizes for the most laps.  There will be prizes for the best challenge.  There will be lap times posted for each rider on each lap, the fastest riders will have a special challenge following the Gnome Fest Enduro.

Saturday - September 6th

10:00 a.m. - Wake Up
  • Don't get up before 10:00 a.m.
  • 10:01 a.m. - Kelsey's Weather Report
10:02 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. - Free Ride/Free Time
  • Ride the trails and check out the Hirsch Farm trail system or take a swim in the Blockhouse Stream.  Visit the local bikes shops - Momentum Bikes in Platteville or Free Flight in Dubuque.  Or ride nearby townie trail system in Platteville, or FDR in Dubuque IA, or Galena IL.  Potosi Brewery and New Glarus Brewing are just 45 minutes away in eiher direction.  We don't care what you do, just be back in time for the Dirt Cat.  When's the Dirt Cat?
2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. - Dirt Cat
  • Mountain Bike Poker Run.
  • You'll receive a map and directions of stations where you'll participate in events to qualify and get seeded for the Figure 8 Death Race.  
  • There will be Beer Stops in the trail system.
  • You must participate in the Dirt Cat to Qualify for the Figure 8 Death Race.
  • If you have a legitimate excuse for not showing up Friday Night and you wish to participate in the Figure 8 Death Race, you will need to compete in a special event against the other people who F*ed up just prior to the Dirt Cat.
6:00 p.m. - Dirt Cat Results, Prizes and Beer Social
  • Beer Social - Bring a 6 pack of your favorite beer from wherever you are from and share it with everyone else.
  • Prizes - This is where we'll give away cool stuff.  Including the Surly Ice Cream Truck Frame/Fork.
  • Dirt Cat Results - Who won, Who didn't, Who's going on to the compete in the Figure 8 Death Race.  The Bracket will be revealed.  Kelsey will give a report on the evening's weather.
8:00 p.m. - The Burning of The Bike
  • You're going to want to see this.
10:00 p.m. Figure 8 Death Race
  • If you don't know what this is, I'm not going to tell you here.
  • What happens at Figure 8 Death Race, stays at Figure 8 Death Race.

Sunday - September 7th

All Day - Leave It Like You Found It

The Hirsch Farm is a privately owned trail system.  There is no professional clean up crew.  If you are still alive and want to ride some more trails, be our guest.  We just ask that before you leave you help us out by cleaning up your camp site and help with picking up around the fest grounds.
